Dayang Yihao is synonymous with the triumph of China's deep-sea research. With its most advanced technology and a team of top marine scientists, the vessel is designated for deep-sea research, an area of scientific and strategic importance to China's development. After 220 days at sea in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, the vessel is doing Hong Kong the rare honor of first calling at the SAR to showcase the groundbreaking scientific finds it made during its long voyage, before heading back to its home port in Qingdao.

To raise public interest in marine research and stir a great sense of pride in the scientific advances of the Motherland, HKUST will join hands with the State Oceanic Administration and China Ocean Mineral Resources R&D Association in organizing on-board tours of Dayang Yihao for local residents who can also enjoy public lectures on marine research and development.
